Dave Ramsey Resources and Links

Dave RamseyI’m a big fan of Dave Ramsey and give much of the credit for our financial turn-around to his Financial Peace University program. In fact, friends that we’ve referred to Dave Ramsey’s program have also reported that for the first time they’re on the same page as a couple concerning their finances. I must admit though that the book Financial Peace University wasn’t that great — rather the 3 month program was useful.

In addition to FPU, Dave Ramsey is mostly known for his daily (week day) radio show and his book “Total Money Makeover.” Over time I’ve come across a lot of information about Dave Ramsey both on his official websites (of which he has many) as well as in forums and blogs. As a benefit to GFD readers, I’ve consolidated the most prominant Dave Ramsey links and resources for easy reference. Some of the Dave Ramsey resources require a subscription (like his “My Total Money Makeover” online subscription) but there is a lot of good information available for free. If you’re new to Dave Ramsey, I would check out the summary on his “Baby Steps” in particular. It is one of the best, most focused approaches to financial goals I’ve come across.

This guy’s stuff works. If you want to do the program, you really don’t need anything but the book, “My Total Money Makeover”. The other stuff is okay but not necessary. You can listen to plenty of his radio show on line. My dh and I paid off nearly 40K worth of debt in 17 months. During that 17 months, we had two kids in college and 3 more at home, our roof needed replaced, our car with a 60-month loan had the engine die and needed to be replaced to the tune of almost $6,000 dollars. I give you this background to tell you that it is all very do-able and the radio show is very motivational. It is nice to sleep at night again! My husband was laid off two days ago and I’m not panicked because we got our financial house in order. I don’t have car payments, no credit card debt, etc. TMM is a fun read, too.

  12. rachel heisinger Says:

why is it I can listen to your show in my car every afternoon but if I’m in the house I can’t pick up any am stations ? My other car won’t let me listen either, are you on a fm station in my area? Tripp, south dakota 30 south of Mitchell, SD

  13. Recovery Dude Says:

My wife and I took the 13 week course Financial Peace University and it was the best decision we ever made. I think it is great that businesses are offering this course to their employees. What a great benefit. Being debt free in America is a scarce commodity. So many people are in debt up to their eyeballs and just like you are taught in FPU, nobody ever taught you anything about money! You did not learn it in school and your parents probably had some of the same problems. FPU breaks your thinking down about your money and finances and takes you back to simple biblical principles. In Proverbs it says that the borrower is Slave to the Lender. This is true, true, true. We did what most typical young married couples do. Get engaged, take out a small loan to pay for the ring, go buy a new car and take on about 2 to 4 new payments that we already cannot afford but do it anyway because we “will be making more money”. Right. Immediately we become slaves to the lender, going to work every day just to make our monthly payments on cars, stereos, credit cards, etc.. When we can’t even afford our rent, utilities, doctor bills, insurance and cell phones we already have. I see so many people in this predicament and no way out. And we are not taught the correct way to handle our money. Ramsey teaches you just how to get out of debt by using the debt snowball method. Pay off you smaller debts first and then take that extra money and put it to the larger bills and so on and so on. Save up $1000 in an emergency fund and start tithing 10% and saving 10% in retirement. Sell off all that you can get rid of that is not a necessity to pay off some debt. Get rid of your expensive cars if you can unload them and get into a much cheaper but nice car for around $5000 to $6000 and pay cash if you can. If not, then your payments will only be about $100 to $170 a month instead of your $300 + per month payments on your brand new Yukon! DUMP DEBT and save money. Being debt free is such a better way to live. We we able to sell our house and pay off almost every bill we have except a low interest student loan and we feel great now. Believe me, hanging on to a house because you think you will have nothing to show for in life if you sell it IS A BIG FAT LIE. Being debt free is a way better deal. You can always buy another home. Do whatever you can to escape FINANCIAL SLAVERY NOW!!!! Get out like an animal escaping a trap.

  18. sweetmama Says:

Thank you so much for the forum listings. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for since completing the 13 week course. It was great to have access to the Total Money Makeover forum during the sessions but my budget wouldn’t allow the charges for the membership – so glad others who love the info thought of creating the forums. We’ve paid off right at $25,000 in debt but still have $70,000 to go. Again, thanks for sharing.

Hi, I’m looking to find someone who either knows Dave Ramsey or who has his ear. I’m a former Internet Services Provider with the skills to create a dynamite online community using some great technology as well as great ideas to blow the competition out of the water. Since home based business owners will form a large part of our online community and most of them have the very real need to get out of debt, I would like to approach Dave Ramsey with the possibility of lending his expertise and name recognition to our endeavor. If you are such a person please contact me so we can discuss this matter further. Thanks! Leroy Grey

Dave has said on his radio program that supplemental insurance is a rip off. What does he mean? I have AARP supplemental and it costs me $150 monthly and too be truthful, it hasn’t done any good for me. So. what does Dave suggest and why is it a rip off?

  24. Marcia Richburg Says:

    Good Morning:

I am having a terrible time finding a job. I have always worked as Admin. Asst and/or Manager.

But, now that I’m 57, it seems no one offers me work unless it’s retail with no advancement.

Someone told me that they heard Dave Ramsey talk about this and even offered to hire someone who is being discriminated against due to age.

I was wondering if the above is true, or if Mr. Ramsey had suggestions. Should I, at 57, go to school to become a medical assistant? And, I think I might run into the same age issue once I finished the medical course.

If Mr. Ramsey would like to speak with me personally, I would be happy to meet him at his Brentwood office.

    Thank you,

Would it be wise to purchase a first-time home at ages 58 and 56 with an approximate down of $45,000?
We have always rented, but have inherited a small amount that could be put toward a home. We have an outstanding student loan of approximately $50,000, but other than that we are debt-free.

  28. Barbara Says:

How do I get started on this debt-free or even reduced debt road? We’re drowning and are starting the process of taking everything into bankruptcy. Is there another way out? We’ve tried debt settlement a couple of times but it just isn’t working out for us. We can’t get financing to get cheaper cars because we owe so much on the ones we have. What do we do, where do we turn?
